Thought it was time for on update on my training…so here we have my weekly diary. Just a quick bit of prior knowledge: I’ve been struggling with a hip problem which has come back every time I’ve tried to run again. I thankfully managed to book a physio appointment on Monday and was told that I just needed a week of strengthening before running again so I’m going to restart this coming Monday!
I will also apologise in advance for the fact that I didn’t take any active photos this week. During school time all of my session are very rushed so I never have the time, meaning I’ve had to resort last weekend’s photos!
Monday 29th Jan
On the way back from physio I was dropped off at gym where I squeezed in the quickest of sessions before the bus! This started with physio exercises, glutes, 30 minute steady spin, and then a leg session (similar to one of these).
Tuesday 30th Jan
Went to netball practice at school and then jumped off the bus one stop early for a 40minute swim at the leisure centre. I’m more used to doing swim sessions so swimming continuously felt a little weird but in the end I covered 2km in 39 minutes. The general swim starts 20 minutes after the bus arrives so I quickly did my physio and core up in the gym, and then glutes when I arrived home.
Wednesday 31st Jan
As usual, I went to the school legs session after lunch which was all fine, however I normally head up to the cardio gym in one of my ‘frees’ to use the exercise bike but the fifth form were having mocks in the rooms below so it was closed for the week. This meant I had to head out to the shed after school to retrieve my bike and turbo trainer to use on the patio (it’s not allowed inside!). Thankfully it was that night with the rare supermoon/eclipse thing so the moon was exceptionally bright, meaning I could at least half see what I was doing. I was meant to go for 30 minutes but in the end came in at 25 because I was really thirsty and clearly didn’t have the ability to think ahead and bring a drink outside with me. Pre turbo I did my physio exercises, foot exercises, and skipping drills on the grass.
Thursday 1st Feb
Very happy to be in February now! Despite this, Thursday’s training was a bit of a let down if I’m being honest. Netball training went well, but the pool in the evening was so busy and just generally disgusting (think snot and all that), so 20 minutes in I decided I couldn’t deal with it anymore and headed to the showers. It really annoyed me because I was meant to be doing a proper swim session! To try and compensate for some of it I used my remaining time before pick up to get my physio, glutes and core exercises done, and then spent 10 minutes on the cross trainer.
Friday 2nd Feb
Rest day- of course.
Saturday 3rd Feb
After Saturday school I travelled to Ramsgate for an away netball fixture. I play centre and for once we didn’t have any subs to rotate so I played for the whole match- I was pretty tired by the end because it was such a high tempo game! It didn’t help that the other team did have quite a few subs so I was marking a well-rested player every quarter. Still I really enjoyed it (and of course we won which always helps), and felt no pain in my hip despite running around for 50 minutes so I’m quite confident that it will be fine when I go for an actual run on Monday.
Sunday 4th February
And that brings us up to today. I was meant to be training my legs yesterday but we returned back from the match so late that the gym wasn’t really an option. This means I’ll be doing them later alongside a steady 40 minute swim. This morning it’s just work and most probably my physio exercises and core. Then it’s back to it all again on Monday. One week until half term and I honestly can’t wait!
I apologise for this post being quite brief- I just wanted to skim over what I’ve been up to. I have quite a bit of homework to hand in for Monday, so I’m slowly making my way through that (and watching the Crown)!
PS. Vive review went up yesterday :)))
