This week I’m sharing my thoughts on another product: Reflex Bands from Crucial Fitness.
I really do think that reflex (or thera/resistance) bands are a must have for all runners. They’re extremely useful for targeting certain muscles to strengthen at home, and also great for packing when going on holiday because they take up very little room but still have a similar effect to weight training if used correctly. Therefore I was very excited when I received the package from Crucial Fitness.
disclaimer: I was sent 3 different bands to review however this has not affected my thoughts on the bands in anyway, shape or form.
When I first used the bands I have to say it was a little hard because the reflex bands are unlike the ones I normally use in the way that you don’t tie them to make a loop- they already come as a loop. This is useful in some respects, especially when doing exercises like donkey kicks as you can see in the video below, however at certain times it was a slight inconvenience when I needed to use a shorter loop for things like clams. It took few tries before I learned how to effectively tie a knot in the loop which made it much less of a problem.
Moving onto the appearance and design. I’m definitely a fan of the colour coding and sleek look of the bands. I would like to point out though that the thickness can sometimes be a problem if the tension is very high because the edges do dig in to your skin a little bit- this is where I think the more classic and softer thera bands might have been more agreeable. However these reflex bands are made of premium layered latex making them feel and look very high quality which is always a good thing. They can also be used for a whole range of exercises, and then chart below details the different strengths you can buy. The orange bands are recommended for weightlifting but I personally found the much lighter red bands perfect for most of the strengthening exercises that I complete.
Finally, at £8.99 the price is very reasonable for a resistance band loop. Overall, these bands do have their faults but they’re still worth considering especially if you’re looking for heavier bands for weightlifting.
